The professionalization and academization of police training are progressing in many countries - and Ethiopia is no exception. For many years now, both Ethiopian police officers and police officers from neighboring countries have been receiving training and continuing education at the Ethiopian Police University (EPU) at the intermediate, senior and higher levels of service within the framework of courses, bachelor's and master's degree programs. EPU is one of the largest education and training institutions at an accredited academic level on the African continent with approximately 2000 police students and undergraduates. The President, the Academic Vice President and the Head of Leadership College of PU are currently visiting the German Police University on the initiative of the Federal Police.
Aim of the delegation visit is to exchange mutual experiences in the field of education and training and to explore possible future synergies. The main topics are administrative sciences, police operations management and leadership. In view of the fact that the EPU is also a training center for forensics, the area of forensic technology was also included in the program and will be rounded off by specialist lectures and a visit to Münster Police Headquarters.
A modern police force, oriented to both current technical and experiential knowledge as well as academic findings, is a key element for successful police work based on the rule of law and human rights. Supporting Ethiopia, as the country with the second largest population in Africa, on this path in the sense of civil crisis prevention and advance strategy is therefore the purpose and reason for this cooperation of the EPU with the German Police University and the Federal Police.
