The German Police University in Münster welcomed a delegation from the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) from Tallinn, Estonia, from 25-27 March 2025. The aim of the visit was to strengthen German-Estonian cooperation in university research and education.
The eight students and two accompanying lecturers were given an insight into the structures and tasks of the German police services, the structure of the German Police University as the university of the federal and state police services and the Master's degree programme ‘Public Administration - Police Management’. In an exchange on research funding with the team from the Police Security Research Network Unit (Vest SiFo), among others, the focus was on topics such as research management, research cooperation, best practices and funding strategies, such as the Horizon Europe programme.
The visit to Münster provided the Estonian guests with a variety of perspectives on German police education and training: In addition to the German Police University, the delegation visited the State Office for Training, Further Education and Personnel Affairs of the North-Rhine Westphalian Police and gained impressions of the tasks, organisation and structures there. An exchange at Münster Police Headquarters rounded off the varied professional programme.
The delegation was accompanied by Assistant Chief Constable Stefan Schwarz, Head of Staff Unit III – International Office at the German Police University, and Cornelia Schneider and Lisa Wolter, team members of the International Office. ‘This visit strengthens the existing good relations with our Estonian partner university and serves, among other things, to initiate scientific cooperation,’ explains Stefan Schwarz. ‘Especially in volatile times, cooperation between European police universities is essential in order to pool knowledge and expertise, exchange best practices and jointly develop solutions for the challenges of the future.’
