Students Selection Procedure
Admission
- are no more than 40 years of age
- hold the educational degree of A’level (Abitur) or a comparable level of education
- a) have:
completed studies at a University for Applied Sciences – Public Administration (= institution at German Fachhochschule level) or a comparable institution, passed the examination for the intermediate police service, acquired police operational experience following their studies, received an extraordinary rating while serving, and have been short-listed as an outstanding candidate following the selection procedure described above and therefore admitted to studyor
b)hold a scientific university diploma and have been short-listed as an outstanding candidate under the selection procedure described above. - Students who have successfully completed the second state examination in law or have passed the post-graduate state examination qualifying them for the Senior Service in Public Administration will be prepared for future responsibilities in the senior police service through a development training unit. §29, Section 3, applies accordingly.
Students of 45 years or over may be admitted under exceptional circumstances provided an admission was previously impossible, is due to reasons outwith the officer’s control and if the career structures or regulations of the German Federation and the Federal State provide no obstacle.
Duration of Studies and Structure of Curriculum
The degree takes two academic years to complete. The first year is conducted at and run by the Federation and the Federal states. The second year is undertaken at the German Police University (DHPol).
The master`s course 'Public Administration - Police Management' has been conducted at the DHPol since October 2007. The first students finished the course in September 2009 and were awarded their master`s certificates.

The Master of Arts (Ma.) degree 'Public Administration - Police Management' qualifies the holder for promotion to the senior police service.
